Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use this site, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

This site is run by Lift Interactive Inc., a design and technology studio in Edmonton, Alberta. We’re responsible for the personal information described here, and we handle it under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The rights below apply to everyone who uses the site, wherever they are.

Questions and requests about your information go to hello@lift.studio.

What we collect

When you browse

We measure how the site is used with PostHog, Vercel Web Analytics and Google Analytics: which pages are viewed, how people move between them, which links and buttons they use, and how quickly pages load. PostHog and Vercel don’t set cookies, and PostHog forgets you when you leave or reload a page. Google Analytics, which we load through Google Tag Manager, uses cookies to tell when your browser comes back.

Like any website, ours receives the technical details your browser sends with each request: your IP address, browser and device type, and the page you came from. Our hosting provider keeps these in its logs, and our analytics may use your IP address to estimate your city or country.

When you search or use the chat

What you type in the “Ask us anything” bar is sent to Algolia to search the site, and to TypeSafe to tell a search from a question. Chat questions are sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the replies, together with the title and address of the page you’re on. Anthropic’s commercial terms don’t allow it to train its models on what we send.

Your conversation is kept in your own browser so you can come back to it. It isn’t stored on our servers, and our analytics record only that you searched or chatted and how long your message was, never what you typed.

When you contact us

The contact form, and the chat on the Contact page, ask for your name, email and organization, a few questions about your project and a message. On the Contact page’s chat, your answers are sent to Anthropic to put your brief together. When you send it, we also receive:

  • The page you sent it from.
  • The pages you’ve viewed on this site in the last 90 days, so we know what you’ve already read. Your browser keeps that list and clears it once the form is sent.
  • A check from Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at your IP address and browser to tell people from bots.

Once you’ve sent it, our analytics connect your visits to your email, name and organization, so we can see how you found us.

How we use it

  • Answering you. We use your contact details to reply and to talk about your project. We don’t add you to a mailing list or send you marketing email.
  • Improving the site. Analytics show us which pages help and what isn’t working.
  • Keeping it secure. We block spam and abuse, and count chat requests by IP address for a few minutes to stop anyone flooding it.

We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Who else handles it

These services run parts of the site for us. Each handles your information only to provide its service:

  • Vercel: hosting, server logs and web analytics.
  • Sanity: our content system, where contact submissions are stored.
  • Resend and Slack: delivering new contact submissions to our inbox and our team.
  • PostHog: analytics.
  • Google: analytics, through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Anthropic: the AI that answers chat questions and helps put contact briefs together.
  • TypeSafe: telling searches from questions.
  • Algolia: site search.
  • Cloudflare: the Turnstile check on the contact form.
  • Mux, YouTube and Vimeo: videos. YouTube and Vimeo films in our case studies come from those services, under their own privacy policies.

Several of these companies are based in, or store information in, the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside Canada and be subject to the laws there.

Cookies and your browser’s storage

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and one starting _ga_, so it can tell when your browser comes back. They last up to two years. We don’t use advertising cookies. The site also keeps a few things in your browser’s local storage, on your own device:

  • Your choice of light or dark theme.
  • Your chat conversation, and whether the chat was open.
  • A contact form you’ve started but not sent.
  • The pages you’ve viewed here in the last 90 days, sent with the contact form if you use it.

You can clear these and the Google Analytics cookies at any time in your browser’s settings. Cloudflare’s spam check and the YouTube and Vimeo films may set cookies of their own.

How long we keep it

  • Contact submissions: two years from when you send them, then deleted, including the copies in our email and Slack.
  • Chat conversations: in your browser until you clear them. Anthropic, TypeSafe and Algolia keep what they receive only for the periods their terms set.
  • Analytics and server logs: for as long as they help us understand and run the site, under each provider’s retention settings.

Your rights

You can ask us:

  • What personal information we hold about you, and for a copy of it.
  • To correct it.
  • To delete it, or to stop using it.

Email hello@lift.studio and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections, and access to contact submissions is limited to the Lift team. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care, and if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we’ll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.

Children

This site is for organizations, not children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
